Matt & Britten took on our remodel the first half of this year. I was so frustrated with the house that waking up to it every morning was trying. The decision rubric was either to drop a ton of money into making it not hateful or to look at getting a new place or building one that wasn't so problematic. Given the realities and general associated issues with finding and moving to a new place, the remodel option was selected.
Here's the list of issue they addressed:
1) Sagging front deck, its roof, and concrete steps. They were able to raise, level, and bolster all of the things.
2) Upstairs and downstairs flooring. The prior owner went insane with tile. Slate tile floors right up to the cabinets and appliances. The issue there is the inability to replace any appliances w/out removing the flooring or cabinets. Given the attachment and nature of the granite countertops, that wasn't an option. The unevenness of slate tile flooring was also not enjoyable. We had that replaced with a textured wood grained LVP.
3) Laundry room/theater room wall movement. The laundry room is upstairs. It was more like a narrow enclosed hallway. Enough room to barely open a front loading washer. M&B moved the wall 2ft into the theater room. This required movement of the theater room's doorway.
4) High and Low voltage wiring w/associated additional 200A service. To upgrade appliances, address HVAC issues, and a proper, final, networking wiring of the house, more circuits and panels were required. M&B subcontracted and managed all of that. Now I have om5 fiber and cat7 runs to every room going back to the garage. The additional high voltage runs required additional service which further required an additional panel. I chose to upgrade the existing panel to match the new one since I wanted to go with SPAN for that purpose. To support generator power ability, an ATS was also required.
5) Related to item 3, I wanted PoE security camera lv cable runs. It happened that the company that performed the runs also were able to do the mounting of the cameras.
6) Mini split systems for garage and house. Head units in every room including the garage. The theater room and office, rest of the house, and garage have their own separate heat pumps.
7) Whole house exterior window replacements. Many of the windows had failed, inert gas leakage, with he rest on their way out. M&B did this themselves. Adding gorgeous trim accents in the process. Serious, they did an amazing job; makes the house 'pop'.
8) The kitchen/living room is open...like a hangar bay. Medium sized aircraft fuselages could be built in this thing. French doors open to the back yard. This is the primary dog {in,e}gress point. Lots of dirt/mud and other unpleasantness comes in with them. I requested a sort of dog wash staging area to be able to wash/clean them prior to wrecking the house proper w/whatever detritus might be on them. M&B worked with me to design and build an absolutely phenomenal dog wash area. Insode is build like the lower half of a walk-in tile shower with wand and drain. The outside is wrapped in Alderwood and stained to match the Alderwood cabinetry. Images are worth a look.
9) porch/deck expansion for the side, mudroom, door. The house had nothing beyond the upper story's soffet in the way of any sort of weather mitigation for that door. Not only did it make using it during the majority of the year given our climate, but it was proving to be quite hard on the door itself. M&B designed and built a custom porch/deck/overhang w/lighting, PoE camera run and mount, integrating into the house siding and matching metal roofing.
10) Interior and exterior painting, staining, drywall, and texturing was all handled by them directly or properly subcontracted. Everyone involved were competent, reasonable, professional and pleasant.
11) Miscellaneous projects such as tightening up the lower stairwell banister, which turned out to be nontrivial, engineering a nicer/proper recessed handle on the floor/cover plate access to the crawlspace, aesthetic improvements to overly aggressive hole sizing cable installers performed in doorbell camera installations, and flashing of house and drain gravel w/a separate turf installation company's efforts. And a stained to match trim piece to go under the replacement induction range top.
Overall GSC, Matt & Britten, are awesome. They were super receptive to "random" additions to the task list and patient...very patient as I can be more than a little intense and salty. They were extremely tolerant of my 5yo and his nigh constant nagging to touch, play, and endless questioning. Britten was his favorite person. It should also be noted that there were several times during various tasks where the actual final billing ended up being a bit lower than the estimates. This seems to be a bit of a rarity and was quite refreshing. They have also been very responsive to any issues. There have been only a few but in each case they were quick to have them resolved.
Overall, I can not more highly recommend any group/business. They will do proper quality work, stand behind it, and for a reasonable price. While they are doing it, they will be fun to have around. They even bought me lunch a few times! If you need some work done, look no further, these are your guys!
